A Glorious Day Out

The first outing of the Silurian Guild of Adventures was a resounding success with nine stout hearts venturing to Cardiff. Six from Swansea, one from Cardiff, and two from entirely different country- The West Country. The crew of The Fell Raven were delayed in arriving to a sudden attack by an air-Kraken only successful use of their air-ship’s flame projector managed to ward off the creature. Through a strange temporal anomaly we met a group of veterans of a future terrible “World War” who landed on the Normandy Beaches to free a Europe occupied by the Prussians. That prophetic tract the Battle of Dorking is all too true. They were impressed by our outfits.

Despite the dark news of the death of the museum’s vice-director the group successfully broke a complex cipher based on the Darwin exhibition and then discovered the terrifying truth behind the deaths which afflicted the museum. For reasons of Public safety the secrets behind the murders can never be revealed.

We then retired to the public hostelry. Discussions ranged from the correct use of personal flame throwers to reckless plans to use animal magnetism to probe into the curious boundaries between matter and spirit, recent designs for automatons that can rotate into steam locomotives and various other vehicular devices and the use of steamy ideas to outwit military minds along with discussions about attending the Asylum.

It seems there is enough interest for future meetings to go on. Potential events:

Steampunks at the Abergavenny Steam Rally
Sunday May 24th Bailey Park, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire Adults £6 http://www.abergavennysteamrally.co.uk/
Help guard the advanced Steam vehicles on display at this interesting event.

Mysteries of Copperopolis: A Swansea adventure

Explore the many strange devices of the National Waterfront Museum with a group of steampunks. Followed either by a trip to the pub or steampunk picnic on the beach.
A weekend in June. Let me know your preferences.

Another event which might be of interest:

Victorian Festival, Llandrindod Wells 22nd - 30th AUGUST 2009

“Llandrindod Wells is proud to present the leading Victorian Festival in the UK today. Set in the beautiful heart of Wales”
www.victorianfestival.co.uk/

Strangely the Victorian Festival does not seem to usually feature airships, time-machines, steam robots, etheric ray guns and other common elements of the Victorian era. Surely we can do something about that? As it is in the Middle of Wales it would also be a good place to meet Steampunks from North Wales. Potentially a day trip if we get up early.
