The Swansea Steampunk Association [The Silurian Steam Republic]
Not inappropriately the history of organised Welsh Steampunk
groups started in Swansea, a key city in the Welsh contribution to the Industrial Revolution. It started in April 2009 with the creation of this blog and a series of
events held under the umbrella of The Silurian Steam Republic. In 2010 The Swansea
Steampunk Association was formed and since both were mainly based in Swansea we
joined forces organising the Swansea Steampunk Music Hall over the next
few years.
Regular events in Swansea and nearby are still being
organised via the Facebook group so follow the link. You can still see posts even if you are not a member.
The Chepstow and Area Steampunk society
This was formed in 2011 and they helped support the brilliant
Waltz in the Wye festivals in 2011 and 2012. They continue to be very active
with members from across Gwent and even from over the river Wye organising regular
events via their Facebook page:
The Noble and Sacred Order of Gogcogs.
The Steampunk group for North Wales emerged in 2011 and they
have held a number of gatherings. Find out more via their Facebook group:
Carmarthenshire Organisation of Genteel Steampunks (COGS)
These are the latest Steampunk group to organise in 2012 and have
been prominent in the Nerdvana festivals held in Carmarthen in 2014 and 2015. They too organise events via
Facebook:
This is an updated version of an old list of Welsh steampunk groups. If there isn’t a group near you why not organise one
yourself? Any extra details or new groups please let me know and I will add you to the list. Also check out our Welsh Steampunk Bazaar to help find local steampunk traders and events near you.
