A Journey Into Steampunk Festival Mid Wales 24th / 25th Aug

[I have been very remiss in updating this website. So I am going to try and rectify that in an attempt to redeem my laziness.]

This impressive sounding festival has been planned for ages. It is a spin off from Abney Park playing at Oswestry last November an event which the organizers put on. You can see the line up here:
 http://www.livesoundpromotion.com/-Steampunk--festival-Line-Up.html

Sadly it has now run into trouble as it looks like they cannot afford to put Abney Park on. They are running a donation fund which you can find out more about here:

Interesting thread on Brass Goggles here:

It is a pity they do not respond to emails otherwise I could have done some promotion for them offline months ago.

Waltz on the Wye II

Check out the website for Waltz on The Wye, the Chepstow Steampunk festival showing its line up for May 2012. Its event last year in 2011 was a great success. I suspect this time will provide yet more steampunk excitement.

Protect the Penydarren - Return to the Museum

Due to our success in destroying the Vortex we had a special invitation from the National Waterfront Museum in Swansea staff to safeguard the Penydarren steam locomotive during its run on July 12th. This will provide a chance to see the glorious Penydarren locomotive in full operation wreathed in steam clouds. Find out more here:
http://www.museumwales.ac.uk/en/whatson/?event_id=3781

We will also be monitoring the museum for the after effects of the temporal vortex we eliminated on our previous visit.

This weekend will also feature the Swansea Air show in which a huge fleet of airships will cross Swansea bay shadowing the ground with their massive size. There also will be a display of some primitive heavier than air craft. Much hilarious amusement can be derived from seeing the antics of these ungainly craft compared to the majestic glory of the airship.

Steampunk Summer Solstice Strangeness - Triumph in the Timewar in Copperopolis

Aethernet instability has delayed a report on the Guild's exciting adventure in Swansea on June 21st till now.

In mid June a series of strange reports came from Swansea and the Guild was called in. Investigating the situation it soon became clear that temporal anomalies in the area were rife. Why were people dressed so strangely? Although it was midsummer many were not wearing hats. There were even worse breaches of appropriate dress! Why was Swansea suddenly littered with ugly buildings with flat roofs? Why were the weather conditions so unstable switching from brilliant sunshine to rain?

What is this weird machine and what has it to do with these reports?

Pirates from the 17th century in 1909 but how?

As reports of weird monsters and foul rogues from the past spread it seems only the Silurian Steam Republic's Guild of Adventurers can save the day.

Guild operatives assemble in front of the Penydarren steam locomotive, a recreation of the first steam locomotive in the world. On 21 February 1804 the world's first ever locomotive-hauled railway journey took place as Richard Trevithick's unnamed steam locomotive hauled a train along a 9 mile tramway  from the ironworks at Penydarren to the Merthyr-Cardiff Canal.

One of the Guild’s Canine adventurers. This is Sir Edward Blontfort-Llewelyn -a hardy Newfoundland dog which possesses webbed feet vital in aquatic adventures.

Reports centered on the National Waterfront Museum full of fine machines.

Hmm another machine to play with...

Dr Mary-Eve Nelson's Aetheric Awenometer [patent pending] measures a huge influx of Awen Waves forming a massive Chrono-Spatial vortex over Swansea Bay.

We soon discovered that it was this Chrono-Spatial vortex was drawing people from the past into the Swansea of 1909. It brought a large number of pirates and privateers from the Stuart and Georgian periods through a triangular worm hole located somewhere in the West Indies. These included Captain Bartholomew Roberts and Admiral Henry Morgan who together seized the Mayor of Swansea hostage and demanded 30,000 gold doubloons for his release.

There were even some people drawn from a dark dystopian future from an alternate reality - which contains such terrible horrors I cannot detail them here for the sake of our reader's mental health.

Observe one pirate's journey through time has had terrible side effects - he has been aged 300 years in an instant!

A Sea pirate attacks an airship engineer!

After evading the pirates by bribing them with rum from our hip flasks the adventurers go in search of the source of the problem.

This is the source of the vortex!

The Swansea Awenic Spiral Contraption - Creator of the Chrono-Spatial Vortex

This curious device measures fluctuations in the flow of Awen in Abred by moving objects from different locations in mystic spirals won first prize in the engineering category in the 1905 National Eisteddfod. A team of expert Steam druids located in the museum keep the machine under observation. One of this group Evan Hughes from Gorsenion had been using the machine for illicit experimentation on energies originating in Anwwn. He deliberately overloaded the machine and by making the objects spin more and more rapidly created a vortex. With the arrival of the Summer solstice the solar power running through the machine was running wild resulting in the temporal chaos we saw. If the vortex continues unchecked the results will be disastrous. We quickly stabilised the machine but the vortex itself was growing bigger.

Sabotage! The Machine is out of control. Mad Steam Druidry at its most sinister.

Another anomaly detected.

A physician from the Royal Navy of Nelson’s time sucked through the vortex proves a vital ally

Laudanum will soon calm the nerves of our distressed heroes and help shield them from the ravages of vortex. Dr Stratford is ready!

A NEW DANGER!

The strange weather conditions in Swansea caused by the Vortex have disturbed the Upper Reaches of the atmosphere and have brought to lower levels the most vicious creatures of the skies - the dreaded Air Kraken!

Only a junior specimen from its small size yet it has run riot killing many children and pirates.

Battling the Air Kraken

Die you creature of the Skies!

Back you Tentacled Fiend.
A blast of Anwwynic energy from a distengrator cane stops the already badly wounded Kraken.

The Kraken is finished.

Unless the Chrono-Spatial vortex is healed all of Swansea would come under assault from these creatures. If an adult comes then massive destruction will result.

Distressed townsfolk who have plunged into the sea at the sight of the Kraken are rescued by one of Guild’s canine allies, Sir Edward Blontfort-Llewelyn.

No time to lose. Quick to the LV91 Helwick, the Scientific Lightship! Only the advanced scientific instruments we have there can save the day now.

Refugee children follow the guild team to safety. It seems the vortex can be closed by reversing the polarity of the Awen field. However crucial parts of the mechanism are underwater.

Prepare the diving apparatus.

One of team prepares to dive into Swansea bay

We must wait!

Success! The Awenic Transformer is almost ready.

A few more adjustments.

Using the recovered components the team reverse the polarity of the Awenic flow the Vortex is dispersed.

To the Public House. The Pumphouse is a suitable venue for a celebratory drink.

The guild triumphs again! Yet the rogue steam druid is still on the loose. Who knows where he will strike next?
